This early oil painting of the boat yard in Conwy Bay portrays a rather dull day. Knighton-Hammond uses a profusion of constructive brushstrokes in this composition. He uses impasto with visible brushwork to evoke the shimmering light of the water and to give texture. Conwy Castle is silhouetted against the sky. The two figures at the water’s edge give a sense of scale and movement.
