In this clever landscape the cattle grazing on lush grass in the foreground are part enshrined by the imposing trees in the mid-ground. The spectator’s eye in cunningly lead from the foreground through to the half-concealed background through the gap in the trees to the focal point of the hazy, atmospheric distance landscape. Knighton-Hammond’s art was fuelled by his profound love of the natural world which is clearly evident in this impressive oil painting.
