This atmospheric watercolour has Mont Blanc silhouetted against the cloudless blue sky. It offered Knighton-Hammond the chance to explore the pictorial possibilities of a landscape void of human activity to optimise the aesthetic response to nature. The foreground colours are very fluid drawing the spectator’s eyes to the majesty of the mountain. This picture was exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts in 1952.
