Knighton-Hammond was commissioned by the FitzAlan family to produce a series of watercolours in and around Derwent Hall in Derbyshire. The mail purpose was to record the house and grounds before they were lost under a proposed reservoir. This elevation of Derwent Hall is set in the formal gardens. The architecture is drawn with fine perspective as the spectator's eye is navigated along the facade to the trees in the rising background.
