Knighton-Hammond enjoyed the hussle and bustle of race meetings and invariably he went to them purposefully to paint. This Epsom scene is typical of him placing himself behind the crowds painting the race goers enjoying themselves. The two seated figures in the foreground enjoying a picnic may well have been family. The oil paint on this busy picture has been applied in a thick impasto manner giving texture to this colourful work.
