This early oil painting, possibly of the Derbyshire Dales, is full of moodiness from the moonlit rural scene. There is an eery tranquillity created by the slow moving river. The cattle are grazing near the farm building. With the lighting there is limited gradation of tone to work with yet Knighton-Hammond cleverly achieves aerial perspective helped by the position of the trees.
