The view of St Mark’s Square, Venice through two archways is a picture full of colour and the hustle and bustle of people. This picture would have been painted when Knighton-Hammond first visited Venice in 1922. There is great spontaneity about the figures spread throughout the piazza. The façade of San Marco is at the far side of the square. The building to the right gives depth to the picture with is accurate perspective. The arches show the classical detailing of the masonry structure.
