This sketch has two authentic signatures. On the left is a very early signature – A.H.Hammond - dating from the 1890s when Knighton-Hammond was on a painting holiday from his job as a watchmaker. The other signature Arthur Hammond on the right would date from the second half of the 1900s. The composition has the budding young artist developing his draughtsmanship skills which he enhanced with watercolour. The geometry work at Nottingham School of Art set him in good stead for his emerging career. The inscribed gold mount is original.
