This view of a tree-lined valley with a river is in the Derbyshire Dales and given the title of ‘The Light that Lingers in the West’ by the artist. Trees have been recently felled with the trunks laying on the hillside. Figures are mingling around the trunks. The foliage is rich in colour and texture created by the use of thick, impasto paint. The spectator’s eye is drawn through the valley to the atmospheric hills beyond.
