This view of a town, possibly Menton, through a vista in the trees shows what an instinctive feeling Knighton-Hammond had for light, colour and tone with watercolour. This enabled him to produce a work of luminosity and clarity. The richness of the greens and browns in the foreground are so fresh and immediate. The silhouette of the town in the background is very atmospheric and conveys space and depth to the composition. The hazy sky strikes shadows which add to and enriches the colour effects.
