We were delighted to welcome over 50 guests to the historic Main Hall at Brackenhurst Campus earlier this week for a special evening showcasing the works of British painter and NTU alumnus, Arthur Knighton Hammond.

Knighton Hammond, who studied with us in the early 1900s, was a prolific painter who produced hundreds of works over his lifetime. His paintings spanned a wide range of mediums including oils and acrylics, and he is especially celebrated for his depictions of British landscapes and agricultural life throughout the 20th century.

The carefully curated selection of works on display offers a glimpse into Hammond’s rich artistic legacy, chosen to reflect the spirit of Brackenhurst and our connection to the land and heritage. This exhibition holds a particularly special meaning for us, as one of our staff members based at Brackenhurst is a relative of the artist.

The evening also brought a heartwarming surprise – several members of the extended Hammond family met for the first time, reconnecting over shared history and piecing together their family tree.

We are incredibly grateful to Knighton Hammond’s great nephew, Michael Hammond, and his official biographer, Peter Norris, for generously donating and loaning these works to us for the next 18 months.

We’re delighted to welcome visitors to the Knighton-Hammond exhibition at Brackenhurst.

The exhibition is open to staff, alumni, and the public from Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5 pm (term time only), in Brackenhurst Main Hall.

To help us ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone, viewings are available by appointment only at a mutually agreed time.

If you’d like to arrange a visit, please contact us in advance at AREReception@ntu.ac.uk.

We kindly ask that visitors do not arrive without prior arrangement.

You can find the works in the social and circulation spaces of Main Hall.  Please note that there is no lift that provides access to the upper floors of the building.
