This etching was not signed by Knighton-Hammond and it is likely that this was perhaps the first preliminary print run. From this the artist would assess what other work was needed in the etching plate to create other effects to the composition. To get more ink into the plate it is likely that Knighton-Hammond would have reworked more on hatching and thus add tone to the elements. The lively gathering of figures in the street are in conversation creating movement and energy. It is likely that the artist would have worked more on the sky in a later state. The architectural elements are well drawn with linear perspective.
