This etching is probably of a landscape in Derbyshire in about 1910. To create the three-dimensional pictural space the artist uses diminishing scale to give perspective to the composition. This can be observed in the trees as they run from foreground to background. He also uses the amount of ink in the plate to give recession – more etched lines in the foreground and less as the picture moves to the horizon.
