The extensive landscape was carried out later in Knighton-Hammond’s career and is full of variety – rushing skies, changing moods and shifting light. As Knighton-Hammond enters upon the last phase of his career it was not a period of decline but on the contrary, the one which marks the culmination of his greatness as an artist. Here we see freedom of handling and richness of atmosphere. There is standing water in the foreground and some foliage with extensive fields beyond in which cattle are grazing. A farmstead stands on the horizon at the intersection with an extensive sky all to good effect.
