This scene of Adlington in Lancashire is cleverly depicted with the spector’s eye being drawn down the lane to the brick building. The shepherd driving his sheep provides movement as does the horse and wagon. The vernacular buildings provide linear perspective. Painted soon after the Great War it shows the artist developing a more Impressionist style.
