This picture was undertaken whilst Knighton-Hammond has some spare time painting the portrait of the Right Honourable David Lloyd George at his home in Churt, Surrey in September 1933. The pine trees stand imposingly in the landscape surrounded by foliage which is exceedingly rich in colour and full of vitality. There is a vista through the trees where the eye is drawn to the distant landscape described in atmospheric blue hues. The sticks of pastel have been applied firmly laying on as much of the pastel as possible. The trees are cleverly silhouetted against the sky with the trunks depicting a light and dark contrast. The picture was exhibited at The Pastel Society 1934 (No. 312) and acquired by the Lloyd George family where it had remained until recently.
