The historic Anne of Cleve's House in Ditchling is viewed from the church yard on the opposite side of West Street. The house was given to her by Henry VIII but was supposedly never occupied by her. The timber-framed section of the building dates from the 16th century. Knighton-Hammond would have enjoyed depicting the different periods of architecture and its details. There are grave stones in the foreground from where the artist had set up his easel.
