Brighton Beach has multiple figures sitting amongst the small sailing boats on the beach. The buildings forming the streetscape have been painted at great speed. The artist has used a limited palette of colours to good effect creating an interesting composition. The watercolour was exhibited at Manchester Academy of Fine Arts in 1946 where it was purchased by Maxwell Reekie, an art agent acting on behalf of the National Gallery of South Africa, for their permanent collection.
