Knighton-Hammond set himself up in Broad Street to undertake this detailed architectural study. The building at the head of Broad Street is the Butter Cross. This historic street has a range of buildings from different periods from medieval timber framed structures to the Butter Cross with its classical features. St Lawrence’s Church tower stands proudly above the streetscape. The figures and vehicle bring life and a sense of scale. The composition demonstrates the technical virtuosity of his draughtsmanship.
