A caravan and funfair in the market place in Menton. The figures and goats passing through the foreground give movement to the composition. These would have been sketched at lightning speed in pure, direct watercolour. The tall buildings are bathed in sunlight with the maritime alps beyond. There appears to be a colourful funfair in the market place and the trees add to the array of colours. The shadows are depicted in the Impressionist manner of not just colour with an absence of light but colour of a different value adding to the interest for the spectator.
