This early landscape gives hints that Knighton-Hammond was moving towards a freer style. The spirited brushstrokes depicting the stone wall at the side of the track, hedge, fence, trees and cattle. The colours are subdued and one can assume he has not yet come under the influence of Adolphe Valette at Manchester Municipal School of Art. In the background the trees are silhouetted against a grey sky.
