Caustic Pot House

Caustic Pot House

Location: Midland, Michigan, USA

Subject: Industrial Scene

Medium: Oils

Date: 1920

Signature: Knighton Hammond

Dimensions: 74 cm x 87.5 cm

The Caustic Pot House Caustic Soda Production, Dow Chemical Plant shows the shared interests between patron and artist. Both Herbert Dow and Knighton-Hammond could see great beauty and interest in these 'cathedrals' of industry. The artist found a good high-level vantage point, presumably on a gantry, from which to paint. The interior is depicted in subdued colours probably tinted by the processes taking place in the plant.
