Plum Blossom Cottage at Woodford was a favourite location for Knighton-Hammond. This early watercolour is remarkable for its apparent naturalism. The timber framed, thatched cottage with its stucco finish is bathed in sunlight. The foliage of the trees is descriptive of observed natural, rich in form and colour with a profusion of constructive brushstrokes. The foreground leads the eye of the spectator to the cottage door where mother and child bring a human and sensitive touch to the composition.
