This landscape has an instinctive feeling for light, colour and tone which enabled the artist to produce works of luminosity, clarity and space. The watercolour focuses on the overall effect of the scene rather than details within it. The inward depth and spaciousness draw the spectator firstly observing the foreground pond, the masonry wall, gate and trees. The elements of the composition are formed with a profusion of constructive brush strokes yet when the picture is viewed from a distance there is a perfect blend giving an unerring sense of total effect.
