The Epsom Salt Plant  was part of the Dow Chemical Plant in Midland, Michigan. Whilst in America, Knighton-Hammond worked predominently in oils, he did occasionally return to watercolours as for this picture. His work continues to have great freedom yet great accuracy. The composition is well selected and structured. The figures in the foregound and middle distance in the access road bring scale and movement to the picture.
