A farmhouse and attached farm buildings are freely painted in watercolour yet with very accurate perspective and detailing. The trees have a similar freedom of brushwork. The composition, as a whole, would have been painted in pure direct watercolour at great speed. The figures and handcart give scale and spontaneity. The roof tile contrast with the greens of the foliage and the blue and white of the sky.
