This busy etching is bursting with information and shows Knighton-Hammond searching for the most succinct précis of events before him. The harbour is full of boats of various types and the quayside have figures going about their business. The architecture of the buildings in the background are brilliantly well portrayed with standout salient details. The figures give a sense of scale, movement and spontaneity and would have been drawn in with the etching needle into the copper plate at great speed and with great confidence. The boats have great perspective and foreshortening placing them in a harbour in convincing pictorial space. The artist gives a hint of movement in the water. The vertical sails add to the overall strength of the composition. Knighton-Hammond was a master of bringing an expression of energy in his etchings from line alone.
