Knighton-Hammond used thick, impasto oil paints to produce this majestic flower study. Every element of the arrangement has been clearly defined and depicted. Placed in a colourful vase, this crowded flower arrangement achieves disposition of space giving roundness and depth to the composition due to the skill of the artist. Knighton-Hammond did not like over formality hence the reason for some of the blossoms having been removed from the vase and haphazardly placed on the table. The impasto gives texture to the detailed foliage. Within the flower arrangement are dog roses, foxgloves, delphiniums, dahlias and cosmos.
