A very quick red chalk drawing of Freda. The outline would have been quickly followed by the salient features of her face and hair. There is very little modelling to the head yet it conveys volume. Knighton-Hammond showed great delicacy and control with his chalk. Freda’s jacket is articulated with a blunter chalk and different applicational pressure gives a sense of volume in the body. Very few lines were used to represent Freda’s skirt but again it is draped over legs to good effect.
