Gladioli

Location: Misterton, Somerset, UK

Subject: Still Life

Medium: Oils

Date: 1940s

Dimensions: 92 cm x 67 cm

This oil painting contains two images of the artist. The portrait bust is of Knighton-Hammond modelled in clay by Francis Doyle-Jones and was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1926. The artist can also be observed working at his easel in the reflection in the mirror. The gladioli are colourful and well depicted. The items on the table – bust, flower pot and skull show good distribution of space and perspective. This painting is on the reverse of another painting – 25 pounder under a chestnut tree.
