This oil painting, thick in impasto, is rich in colour giving a greater intensity of light. The caravans give perspective and the horses facing the spectator show clever foreshortening. The texture of the paint has been used for the grass bush, tree and the cloud study. There seems to be a direct relationship between the texture of the paint and the character of the landscape. The boy in the foreground brings a human touch. This painting demonstrates Knighton-Hammond’s compositional strength.
