The young Arthur Hammond was a frequent visitor to Haddon Hall in his early teenage years to develop his artistic career. He would work alongside established local artists who took him under their wings giving him guidance and instruction.
This skilful watercolour of the facade highlights the significance of this monumental historic building set against the finely painted flower beds. A light, bright composition with fresh colours would have been painted around 1910 when the artist’s technique was showing maturity. This is evident in the skilful detailing and perspective in the handling of the architecture.
