Knighton-Hammond was always in his element when he was able to paint harbour scenes. The light and colour attracted him and his watercolours were ideally suited for him to produce works of luminosity and clarity as with this harbour scene. The majestic sailing boat on the left with its attendant rowing boat have figures going about their business with a stylistic freedom of touch. The light of the Mediterranean in both sky and that reflected in the sea are harmonious in setting the scene. This is yet another good example of Knighton-Hammond portraying everyday life and cleverly elevating it into an art form.
