This was a very quickly produced watercolour. It is a little unusual insofar as Knighton-Hammond has drawn in the outlines of the figures, the haymaking machine and some contours of the hayrick in pencil. The girls on the rick and clearly helping the farm operative who is working the machinery. This picture would appear to be Knighton-Hammond having fun with a quick watercolour sketch – so free yet expressive. Some elements of the haymaking machine are incomplete but that didn’t bother the artist.
