This is an early Arthur Hammond watercolour from 1901 of Henley. The heavily laden coach with its four horses is moving towards the viewer giving movement to the picture. The onlookers are dressed in their finery ready for the regatta. The buildings forming the streetscape are well depicted with good perspective and architectural detail. The trees create a very atmospheric work for this famous annual event. Arthur had not long moved to the area from Arnold, Nottinghamshire and would have enjoyed the spectacle of visiting Henley during this time.
