This earlier watercolour of the Houses of Parliament would date soon after 1900 when Knighton-Hammond moved to London. The Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) stands tall above the Palace of Westminster on the righthand embankment. Westminster Bridge with is arches spans the River Thames. The river is busy with steam boats and barges. The depth to the pictorial space is achieved with the linear perspective of the river wall, the diminishing scale of the lampposts and trees, and the atmospheric perspective of the grey, foggy environment. The gulls in the foreground give a sense of movement.
