This pastel of Liguria is a riot of colour. There are figures in the foreground which give a sense of scale to the adjacent foliage. The application of pastel is varied. The sky has been blended probably with the artist using his finger to give subtle gradation. The foreground appears to be pure, direct pastel applied with short strokes. The trees are a combination of both techniques. The bands of subject matter give recession and thus depth to the composition.
