Mary and her mother sitting on Edgar Wood’s seat at Monte Calvario, Porto Maurizio, Italy. The Knighton-Hammond family were frequent visitors to their architect friend Edgar Wood. The seat was designed by him and was located in his garden. Knighton-Hammond depicts this monumental work of art with all its architectural features and motifs in watercolour with great freedom yet great accuracy. Daughter Mary is being affectionately cuddled by her mother. The two often featured in the artist’s compositions during the late 1920s and early 30s.
