This very freely drawn flower study in pure, direct watercolour would have been painted at speed. As usual with Knighton-Hammond the display has been dishevelled with some stems being placed on the table. The flower heads are not in full bloom but the artist still manages to make the composition of interest. With flower studies the subtle colour variations, tones and shade are essential to get the full effect using watercolour.
