The landscape is limited to a silhouette against the stormy sky. Knighton-Hammond produced and experimented with many cloud studies. He appears to have enjoyed the rapid notation of an ever-changing cloud formation and working at speed would have suited his style. When in London he used to visit the Tate Gallery to study the collection of John Constable’s cloud studies. He was well aware of the importance the sky was to any composition.
