After running off his etchings from his etching press, Knighton-Hammond often retained copies in his studio. Later in life he would takeout an etching and enhance it by adding colour - generally pastel as in this case. He did not hold back when it came to colour. Here he has set the mood of the composition with the strength of colour used. He has created a stormy sky but with a shaft of sunlight illuminating the facades of the buildings which is reflected in the river.
