This watercolour, painted in Ditchling, is Knighton-Hammond using a very limited palette and has the confidence to draw the composition directly in watercolour – no pencil under drawing. It is a watercolour of great freedom but on close observation painted with great accuracy – very typical of K-H. The steeply pitched roof in the background of the buildings is the spire of Saint Margaret’s Church and farm buildings in the foreground.
