The Masseuse, Burgess Hill, 1938

The Masseuse, Burgess Hill, 1938

Location: Burgess Hill, Sussex, UK

Subject: Conversation Piece

Medium: Drawing

Date: 1938

Signature: Knighton-Hammond

Dimensions: 27 cm x 35.5 cm

This very quick charcoal sketch was undertaken at Burgess Hill in 1938 whilst Knighton-Hammond was living at Ditchling. The person receiving the massage is created with very little contour lines and minimal hatching. The masseuse receives more attention and charcoal. Simple outline and heavy hatching create solidity and form giving a sense of effort being applied in the massage. A convincing drawing with quick execution.
