As he settled into old age, K-H continued to enjoy painting portraits. He liked having local people around him and would regularly usher them into the studio to pose. The Teenager was probably from a local Somerset family. The soft pastels are cleverly graded to create contours with the modelling of the sensitive face. The sitter is at ease and looks happy to pose; one can imagine K-H entertaining her with anecdotes as he painted.
